Tencent's Elden Ring Mobile Version May Still Come Out in the Future |
Last year, reports surfaced that Tencent was working on a mobile adaptation of Elden Ring after securing licensing rights from FromSoftware. However, since then, little information has been shared about the project, leaving fans wondering whether it was still in development. But recent developments suggest that Tencent hasn’t abandoned the idea just yet.
Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Visit to Tencent Hints at Elden Ring Mobile Version
On March 5, 2025, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring and president of FromSoftware, visited Tencent’s game studio in Shenzhen. While neither Tencent nor FromSoftware has commented on the purpose of the visit, it has led to new speculation that discussions about the Elden Ring mobile project may be back on the table.
If the project had been fully canceled, it seems unlikely that Miyazaki would visit Tencent’s studio. His presence suggests that conversations are still happening, whether about Elden Ring’s mobile future or Tencent’s involvement in other FromSoftware-related business.
Tencent Increases Its Stake in Kadokawa
Adding more weight to the possibility of Elden Ring mobile continuing, Tencent recently raised its stake in Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of FromSoftware. The company increased its holdings by 1.11%, now controlling 7.97% of Kadokawa’s shares.
This move suggests that Tencent is strengthening its relationship with FromSoftware, which could mean a continued interest in adapting Elden Ring for mobile.
Tencent’s Elden Ring Mobile Project
Back in 2024, Tencent began developing a prototype for an Elden Ring mobile version. The company, known for successfully adapting major games like PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile, seemed like a strong candidate to bring Elden Ring’s vast open world and intense combat to mobile devices. However, monetization concerns reportedly slowed down progress. Tencent initially planned a free-to-play model with in-game purchases, but due to Elden Ring’s premium gaming experience, the company struggled to find the right approach for mobile adaptation.
With no updates for months, some assumed the project had been shelved. But now, new events have sparked renewed speculation.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, the visit from Miyazaki and Tencent’s increased investment in Kadokawa both point to Tencent still being interested in making Elden Ring on mobile. For now, players will have to wait for an official updates.
