Nintendo Switch 2 might officially get announced in January 2025 and might release in March 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2's Launch Rumored for March 2025 |
Nintendo Switch is the third-most selling console of all time, with a total global sales of more than 140 million units. Given its huge success, it is to be expected that Nintendo would focus a major chunk of its resource on researching and developing this product further. Well, since its launch more than seven years ago, it looks like the Switch is about to get a big brother, Switch 2.
Rumors of a potential successor to Nintendo Switch have spilt over the internet and the way it has spread seems like proof of its credibility. The source is a YouTube channel, Nintendo Prime, whose content, as the name suggests, revolves around Nintendo's products.
New Leaks on Nintendo Switch 2
Here is the gist of what happened. Nintendo Prime found a rumor on Weibo which was subsequently translated from Chinese to English. Now, we have to understand that such machine translations are never a hundred percent accurate. However, the main points of the post seem to be pretty straightforward.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date
According to the post, Nintendo plans to officially announced Switch 2 in January 2025 and release it in March 2025. Of course, the release schedule can speed up or slow down, but right now, this is what we know.
But financially, this tactic makes sense for Nintendo. Switch 2 is expected to sell huge numbers at its launch given the popularity of Switch. This sale would level up the figures for Nintendo at the end of the fiscal year if they manage to release the console before the end of March 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2 Units and Components
The Weibo post also mentions that there are current shipments exceeding 650,000 units. The post seems to compare this to the original Switch numbers, measuring 2,740,000 units. This is, perhaps, the number of Switch consoles manufactured in the past few months, because this does not align with the sales at its launch back in March 2017.
The end of the post talks about Switch 2 components that have already been shipped in excess of hundreds of thousands. The famed T239 SOC that is supposed to power the Switch has also been shipped in huge numbers.
We do not know whether this rumor is true or not, and Nintendo can very easily every we have stated here. Then again, a lot of this makes sense. For example, many rumors about the processor of Switch 2 have made it online and it is only to be expected that Nintendo would ship them soon.
Nintendo Prime took a hit for their video that brought this post into the limelight. Famiboards unfairly banned one of their users for posting this information online. Maybe they forgot the Streisand effect but by doing this, they've only managed to lend even more credibility to the post.
Nevertheless, we cannot brand this rumor as the absolute truth. All we can do is wait for Nintendo to make a move that either confirms or deny this rumor.
