New leaks claim that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a 60-watt charger and an independent cooler in the docking station, and it has made people excited.
Nintendo Switch 2 Might Have a 60W Charger and Docking Station Cooler |
Nintendo is expected to release a successor to its popular Switch console, and recent rumors have been raising expectations with some claiming that the 60w charger and the dedicated cooler within the docking station are on their way. Here’s what we know so far about the potential features of the Nintendo Switch 2, including its charger and docking station.
Nintendo Switch 2's 60W Charger
Perhaps one of the most consistent rumors surrounding the Switch 2 upgrade is a new charger that comes with it. The current chargers for the Nintendo Switch merely use a 36-watt USB-C charger, allowing a maximum of only about 19 watts in the console. However, now leaks claim that the next-generation Switch could very well sport a 60-watt charger.
This increase in power could have significant benefits. A 60-watt charger would, in theory, allow for the new Switch to charge faster and support even higher performance. The switch to a more powerful charger is likely tied to a new technology known as GaN, or gallium nitride. GaN chargers are efficient and well-liked for their fast charging capabilities—a very attractive improvement for gamers.
Also, there are reports that the new charger will be produced by Delta Electronics, the company which is making the charger for the existing Switch. That could, in turn, deliver much better charging and a higher level of performance.
Nintendo Switch 2's Docking Station Cooler
Another rumor surrounds the cooling system of the new Switch 2 console. Various sources, including leaks and manufacturing data, claim that the Switch 2 could come with added cooling—specifically, a fan in the docking station.
Right now, the Switch has just one internal fan, and the dock doesn't even have one. But keeping in mind that this new model is going to be housing even more powerful cores than the older units, cooling these beasts becomes all the more critical. The new Switch may have a smaller fan inside the dock to help dissipate the heat induced by those long playing sessions or fast charging.
The dock fan could help with higher console performance, which might include capabilities like 4K gaming and enhanced clock speeds while the console is docked. This setup would help keep the console cool and maintain optimal performance without overheating.
Do note that these rumors are fueled by data exchange among the manufacturers and give some credibility to the idea that enhanced hardware capacities should be released with Switch 2. While Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed these details, the leaks align with the expected technological advancements for a next-generation console.
Moreover, rumors also indicate that along with a faster charger and an improved cooling system, the new Switch 2 console would also have magnetic Joy-Cons, an 8-inch LCD screen, and, hopefully, stronger third-party game support.
While we are still expecting the final features to be revealed by Nintendo by early 2025, these new leaks seem quite interesting. A 60-watt charger and dock cooling would significantly step up efficiency and performance. But for now, these are mere rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.
