Uematsu has revealed that he will compose the theme for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s final game, with the director hinting that the title might be coming soon.
Uematsu to Compose Theme for Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s final game |
The soundtracks to the first nine Final Fantasy games, as well as several more, were composed by Nobuo Uematsu, who is best known for them. And now in a new interview, it has been revealed that Uematsu will compose the main theme for the third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy as well. Joining him in this conversation are scenario writer Kazushige Nojima and remake director Tetsuya Nomura, who suggests that the third installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy might be coming soon.
Uematsu to Compose Theme for Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s final game
Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima stated in a recent interview from the official Square Enix Music Channel that they are "hard at work" on the final game in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, suggesting that development on it may be further along than we initially believed.
While the tone was light-hearted, with laughter exchanged between the two, they mentioned being "off to the races already." Although not an official announcement, this banter suggests significant development progress.
Adding to this, Nobuo Uematsu, the game's composer, expressed interest in coming back, at least for the main theme. But Nomura and Nojima clarified that their offer to come back is something like "a gentleman's agreement" rather than "an official statement."
The composer responded, "It’d be my honor," when asked to work on the third game. He stated, “I’m honored you’re even extending the offer”. This suggests that they will probably make a formal announcement soon.
This news coincides with Uematsu's recent declaration that he probably won't work on a full game soundtrack ever again, citing a lack of physical and mental stamina to meet the demands of composition, which can need two to three years of intense effort.
Well, Nobuo Uematsu's contributions to the series have earned widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike. However, undertaking the Final Fantasy 7 remakes is no small deal. Uematsu even joked about taking a vacation before diving back into work.
Coming to the scenario writer and remake director, as now, it's uncertain if Nojima and Nomura really referred to active development on the third game.
Nomura began working on the next title of the FF7 Remake trilogy while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was still in development, a fact he revealed back in 2022. However, it was most likely in the very early phases of drafting at the time, with maybe a few developers working on the project.
During the earlier mentioned interview, Nomura hinted at the toll the project has taken on him, expressing relief at the prospect of its completion. He acknowledged that he was hesitant to accept to work on it in the first place and that he was looking forward to it all ending.
Nomura said, "Years ago, during the planning phase, I knew the kind of commitment a project like this would require. Part of me didn't want to do it. Once we got started, there was no throwing in the towel halfway through. You can't leave things on a cliffhanger. You're stuck now. […] At least now, we're finally past the midway point."
He further added, "Personally, I want to be done with this absolute marathon of projects."
Well, Square Enix hasn't given the public a release window, so we have no idea when the trilogy will conclude and when will we get the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s final game.
