Recent rumors have revealed that the PS5 Pro could fall under the $500 price range and might be introduced as early as late 2024.
PS5 Pro Could Fall Under $500 Price Range Without Disc Drive - Rumors |
Although no official details have been disclosed about a PlayStation 5 Pro, the rumor mill is buzzing with speculation about this potential addition to the PS5 family. Last year, some specs of PS5 Pro like GPU, CPU, and memory details were leaked. And now some of these specifications have been confirmed in a new video from popular YouTuber 'Moore's Law is Dead'.
According to the YouTuber, Sony is reportedly planning to incorporate 16GB of GDDR6 memory (18Gbps) on a 256-bit bus. He further claims that the GPU is expected to boast 60 Compute Units (CU) on the full die, Sony is now only aiming to disable 56 CUs. Notably, the video suggests that AMD reportedly plans to introduce the PS5 Pro around the holidays in 2024.
In the same video, 'Moore's Law is Dead' delves into the rumored price point for the PS5 Pro model, speculating it could be as low as $500 for a variant without a disc drive. The YouTuber claims that the cost of manufacturing this Pro model isn't significantly higher than that of the PS5 model that was produced in 2020. He says, "From what I'm seeing here, I mean still just 16GB of RAM, not even 20GBs, so they can go for the cheapest RAM costs probably lower than when they launched the PS5."
Furthermore, he suggests that there's nothing in the console that substantially justifies a higher manufacturing cost compared to the 2020 PS5. He said, "I'm not seeing anything in this console that really makes the price to make it late this year, more than the price to make a PS5 back in 2020. Not drastically more, maybe a little more, but not drastically more."
Well, drawing from Sony's historical pricing patterns, the PS4 Pro, Sony's first attempted mid-generation console upgrade, launched at $399 in 2016. At the time of release, this cost $100 more than the standard PS4. Currently, the diskless PS5 is priced at $449, and the disk-based version is $499. If Sony were to implement a modest price reduction for the base PS5 line, bringing the diskless version down to $399 and the disk-based SKU to $449, a PS5 Pro priced $100 higher than the top-end model seems plausible. Hence, this could position the PS5 Pro around the $549.99 price point.
This theory also aligns with More's claim, further solidifying the fact that the PS5 Pro's price would fall in the $500-550 range.
In addition to this recent speculation, various leaks and rumors surround the PS5 Pro, codenamed Project Trinity. Reports indicate that the PlayStation 5 Pro is in development, targeting a release date in September or November 2024. Despite the absence of support for the promised 8K experience, the PS5 Pro is expected to operate at 4K with 60 fps and boast 23 TFLOPs of rendering power, doubling that of the PS5's 10.28 TFLOPs.
Rumored enhancements include more TFLOPs of rendering power, RDNA 3 graphics processing technology, and the utilization of the latest Ryzen 7000 CPU. Speculations even suggest that the PS5 Pro might feature even newer technology, incorporating a Zen 5 CPU and RDNA 3.5 graphics card. Furthermore, similar to the PS5 Slim, the PS5 Pro is expected to feature a detachable Blu-ray player, allowing users flexibility between DVDs and digital downloads.
Overall, while these leaked features seem fascinating and Moore's Law is Dead claims the PS5 Pro is developer-friendly, requiring minimal effort for improved performance, these details remain speculative and unverified for the time being.
