Overwatch 2 Season 9 battle pass skins, game modes, events, and more revealed |
Overwatch 2 Season 9 is right around the corner, and it's gearing up to be darker and more thrilling than ever before. While Season 10 will introduce the damage hero Venture, Season 9 has its own share of excitement, including a full competitive rework and rank reset for all players. Progression will now be tracked on a per-game basis rather than after a set number of wins or losses.
Let's get into the details of what the Overwatch 2 Season 9 Battle Pass, titled "Champions," has in store.

There are more confirmed skins for Torbjorn, Winston, Bastion, Sigma, Mei, Illari, Lifeweaver, and Widowmaker that will be available with the Battle Pass.
What are the OW2 Season 9 battle pass cosmetics?
The Overwatch 2 Season 9 Battle Pass is themed around Eldritch Horror, as teased in the trailer. And alongside skins, the Battle Pass offers a range of cosmetics and weapon skins.
- Valentine‘s-themed skins
- Cupid Hanzo
- Valentine’s Reaper skin
- Legendary Skins with scary cool remixes, including Fiend Orisa and Dark Fawn Lucio.
- Weapon Skins inspired by the graffiti of the Los Muertos gang seen on Dorado.
Overwatch 2 Ancient Caller Moira Mythic Skin
The Overwatch 2 Season 9 Battle Pass takes players on a dark and eerie journey, featuring themed cosmetics that evoke a sense of dread for both enemies and allies. OW2 Moira's mythic skin is revealed to include three helmet options, two weapon options, and four recolor choices.
The coveted Mythic Ancient Caller Moira awaits those who conquer all 80 tiers. Typically a Tier 80 reward, the Mythic skin can be earned by purchasing the regular or premium version of the Battle Pass.
Overwatch 2 Season 9 Event and Modes
The majority of the recently released Battle Pass skins feature an Eldritch Horror theme, and it appears that a new mode or event requiring players to "Solve a Cosmic Crisis" is on the horizon, as the OW2 Season 9 roadmap also teases a Cosmic Crisis Event mode.
There's also a new Hero Mastery mode called Gauntlet, where players may form groups and use a range of heroes in a PvE setting to defend towers from robotic attackers. Moreover, the trailer showcases maps with tentacled mouths and large eyeballs, solidifying the Eldritch theme.
Then we also have an Overwatch 2 Cowboy Bebop event as a new collab event.
Overwatch 2 x Cowboy Bebop Crossover
Overwatch 2 Season 9 hints at a crossover with Cowboy Bebop, as revealed in the trailer. A view of Route 66 and a close-up of the jukebox inside the diner are shown to us at the very end of the trailer. After that, a well-known anime theme, the opening theme for Cowboy Bebop, "Tank!" by Seatbelts starts to play, leading some fans to believe that Overwatch 2 will get another anime crossover.
Although no confirmation has been given yet, the song is undoubtedly not a coincidence—Cowboy Bebop is a space western, and Route 66 is a map connected to Cole Cassidy. Furthermore, a lot of people are guessing that we might get the Spike Cole Cassidy skin.

Overwatch 2 Season 9: Competitive Overhaul
Blizzard addresses community feedback with a major Competitive overhaul in Season 9 back at Blizzcon 2023, and the key changes include:
- Instant rank progression that replaces the previous system based on five wins or 15 losses.
- Ranked queue changes where players can queue up with anyone, regardless of a two or more rank difference.
- A new rank, Champion, is introduced for players above Grandmaster.
- Placements return with a rank reset, providing a fresh start for players.
Instant Rank feature in OW2 Season 9
Overwatch 2 will have instant rank progression, replacing the existing system of five victories or fifteen defeats to advance. The new method was implemented so that players may work toward a goal instead of worrying about their rank decreasing after every game. However, because they believe it isn't clear enough, players haven't been big fans of this approach.
Ranked queue changes in OW 2 Season 9
In Overwatch 2 Competitive, players are often prohibited from queuing up with opponents two or more ranks lower than them. You can queue up with anyone in the game as of OW2 Season 9. As a result, Bronze players can engage in competitive gaming with their Diamond pals. Queue times may be a little longer, though, since the game will need to identify balanced matches for these situations.
A new rank in OW 2 Season 9
At the moment, players can place or progress through eight Ranked tiers, ranging from Bronze to Grandmaster. In addition, there is the Top 500 rank, which is made up of the top 500 players in your area, regardless of rank. Now, the players who make it above Grandmaster will be the "Champion"
Placements Return in OW 2 Season 9
Overwatch 2's Instant rank progression bar, which tracks players' advancement toward the next rank after every game, will return in Season 9. Similar to Overwatch 1, in order to advance to a given rank, players must complete ten placement match games. After every game, you can focus on moving up to the next rank from there. A soft reset will take place at the beginning of every new season, allowing you to repeat your placement matches, even though players will have a hard reset this season to start over entirely.
New Jade weapons in Overwatch 2 Season 9
Overwatch 2 Season 9 introduces Jade weapons, allowing players to earn them. Details on how they work are yet to be revealed, but it adds an exciting new element to the season. However, there are chances that players will be able to acquire them using Competitive points if we presume it works the same way as Gold weapons.
Overwatch 2 Season 9 Reworks and Balancing
OW2 Season 9 patch notes will be released next week, but a rumored leak from a former Overwatch League player suggests a complete reimagining of the whole hero cast. We will get Pharah Rework with increased health, Rocket Launcher buffs, and a new ability called Jet Dash. Moreover, changes to the projectile size and speed, health values, and new abilities for various heroes will be made.
OW2 Pharah rework
Like all other Heroes, Pharah is apparently getting a health boost, but her kit will see the most modifications. Her Rocket Launcher is getting a nice boost, increasing the speed of the rockets and decreasing self-damage.
If not, players can anticipate the addition of a new skill named Jet Dash. Pharah can now dash horizontally, albeit this skill has a 10-second cooling-off period.
Though Pharah now has a new ability, it appears that the developers still intend to limit her mobility in general and concentrate on increasing her damage output. Along with Concussive Blast, her Ultimate ability is getting some buffs, and players should anticipate adjustments that will make her movement a little more difficult.
Overall, there will be a ton of new content, balancing tweaks, and exciting gameplay adjustments in Overwatch 2 Season 9 that fans can look forward to.
