New details on Overwatch 2 Season 10 have been revealed in a recent Director's Take with hints on the new hero - Venture, some gameplay changes like Competitive Points, and more.
Overwatch 2 Season 10 |
Overwatch 2 Season 9 introduced significant changes to the game, but the absence of a new hero left fans anticipating Season 10. Now, Overwatch 2 Season 10 is on the horizon, and with insights from BlizzCon 2023 and abundant developer blogs, we do have a glimpse of what to expect, including the introduction of Overwatch 2’s newest damage hero named Venture, marking the first since the release of Sojourn. Additionally, several adjustments to Competitive points and group dynamics are anticipated.
Here’s all Blizzard has revealed about Overwatch 2 Season 10.
Overwatch 2 Season 10 Release Date
Although an official release date has not yet been announced, Season 9's in-game timer suggests that Season 10 will begin on April 9, 2024.
Overwatch 2 seasons usually last eight weeks, thus Blizzard's planned April release date would align with their regular schedule.
Overwatch 2 Season 10 Hero: Venture
The biggest addition coming in Season 10 is Overwatch 2’s new damage hero, Venture.
At Blizzcon 2023, Venture was given a sneak peek at some of their skills, like the ability to burrow underground and become invulnerable. A dash that provides a +50 shield and bullets that burst at a predetermined distance were also visible to fans, appearing to be Venture's Primary Fire.
The developers noted that Venture's kit allowed for vertical movement and increased damage output once coming from underground. Additionally, Venture's weapon allows for eight shots before requiring a reload.
Apart from that, not much is known about Venture because the developers haven't revealed more about their potential. Venture was shown at BlizzCon in an early build, lacking some textures. But Overwatch 2 Season 10's debut of Venture as a DPS hero will undoubtedly provide fresh meta and excitement to the game.
Overwatch 2 Season 10 Gameplay Changes
- Competitive Points Changes
The competitive scoring system was redesigned for Season 9, however players were confused by the new design. Now, the Overwatch 2 team is preparing more adjustments for Season 10 in response.
Aaron Keller, the director of the game, stated, "We're working on the ability for players to buy Golden Weapons with the new, 2024 Competitive currency." The intention is to roll out this update at the start of OW2 Season 10.
In addition, role-specific titles will be implemented, the rank range will be displayed on the scoreboard, and other elements like match history and a scorecard will be added by the developers to the Competitive Progress page.
- No More Grouping Restrictions
Blizzard said in a developer update that grouping restrictions will be lifted in OW2 Season 10. This implies that players of all skill levels can five-stack with buddies more easily. Narrow skill groups will be paired appropriately, while wide skill groups will compete against other wide groups.
Keller states in a blog post titled "Director's Take" that, "We'll be making more changes in mid-Season 9 and Season 10. One of the largest of these will include the removal of grouping restrictions in Season 10. We'd like people to be able to play with their friends in every area of the game, however, we'd also like to keep Overwatch's competitive integrity intact. Matchmaking for groups would also be improved. Groups with a large range of player skill—what we call wide groups—will only play against other wide groups. Narrow groups will only be matched with other narrow groups."
These changes are part of the broader adjustments teased in this Director’s Take. Speedier bots with shorter game durations are coming to Overwatch 2, along with speedier play in Flashpoint and during defense setup on Hybrid and Escort. Along with the competitive enhancements, players can anticipate these adjustments throughout the remainder of Season 9 and into OW2 Season 10.
