According to recent reports, Elden Ring, one of the most played games of the decade, may get a mobile version.
Elden Ring Mobile Version Is Being Developed By Tencent |
After being launched in 2022, Elden Ring quickly gained enormous popularity and sold over 20 million copies in just one year. Even in this day and age, the game's popularity is still very high, as new players join the community. Now it appears that the developers may have some good news for the gamers that play on mobile devices as Tencent is supposedly working on a Elden Ring mobile version.
The reports comes from Reuters, citing three persons having knowledge of the situation. Tencent is a game licensee and has been working on a mobile version prototype for some time. It turns out that Tencent is attempting to update its lineup of games by developing an Elden Ring mobile version.
Although "a team of a few dozen people" was reportedly working diligently on the portable title, "progress has been slow," according to sources close to Reuters.
Moreover, based on the info, Tencent, citing Genshin Impact as inspiration, intends to make the Elden Ring mobile version a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. However, Tencent's intended business model conflicts with the current concept used by "Elden Ring", which emphasizes a one-time purchase followed by an in-depth experience.
Well, it's a fairly typical operating model for mobile games, but users aren't particularly fond of free-to-play games with in-app purchases, hence, it would be interesting to watch the fan base's response to the announcement (if and when it happens).
Initially released for platforms such as PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in February 2022, Elden Ring quickly became one of the best-selling games of the year. Then the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was announced three days after the game's first anniversary, adding further anticipation to the Elden Ring saga.
The latest leaks suggest that the Elden Ring DLC might see a launch in February 2024 or, at the very least, receive a new trailer or announcement unveiling the release date. Hence, with all the latest leaks and rumors, it would be exciting to find out what the Elden Ring game has in store for its fans.
When approached for comment on the potential Elden Ring mobile port, both FromSoftware and Tencent (16% shareholder in FromSoftware) remained silent, leaving fans curious about the official stance on this rumored development.
