Recent predictions from a game industry analyst suggest that Nintendo Switch 2 might be a $400 iterative evolution.
Nintendo Switch 2 Predicted To Be $400 Iterative Evolution |
Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, predicts that this year will see the release of Nintendo's Switch successor, which is probably more of an evolution of the present hardware than a radical change. Toto shared his 2024 projection in the annual analyst's predictions article on GamesIndustry.biz, and hinted at Nintendo Switch 2's possible upgrades, price, and features.
Nintendo Switch 2 Predicted To Be $400 Iterative Evolution
When the original Switch came out in 2017, it cost $300, the same as the Wii U, which was relatively fair pricing when you consider that the PS5 and Xbox Series X both started at $500. Now, the Switch successor might cost as much as $400, at least according to Dr. Serkan Toto. There's also a chance that its titles will take on the $70 price point of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Toto, discussing with GamesIndustry.biz, hinted at the existence of a 'Pro' model and developers already working with its development kit. He believes the next-gen hardware could arrive next year at a $400 price tag.
Toto said, "The time is finally here for a Switch successor, even though I can say a 'Pro' model actually did exist and certain developers were already working with the dev kit. I believe the next hardware will drop next year for $400."
Also, the industry analyst claims that Nintendo's upcoming device will once more be portable. He said, "The next system is also likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution. Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch. And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing."
The projected Switch's emphasis on portability seems crucial, particularly considering the franchise's strong connection with handheld gaming, especially Pokémon. This continuity of the Switch concept, retaining its portable nature, appears to be a strategic choice for Nintendo.
At the very least, it sounds like it will be a little better than the New Nintendo 3DS. It's anticipated to preserve the core essence of the Switch, a notion that resonates with the preferences of many fans.
Switch sales decreased by 22% in Nintendo's most recent fiscal year from the year before, and if this year's goal of 15 million units is met, it will be a further 16.5% reduction. Although Nintendo has not yet made a public statement, it is commonly anticipated that the company will release its next-generation console this year.
