The initial leak came from 'Shpeshal_Nick,' who cryptically hinted at the contents of the State of Play showcase in January 2024, mentioning that "you'll need to catch the metro." Leaker 'Kurakasis' later expanded on this, disclosing the complete title of the game—Metro Awakening—and suggesting VR support.
In a follow-up post, Kurakasis states that they are unable to verify if Metro Awakening is a VR-exclusive game, however, if that is the case then it implies that it may never come to Xbox as Microsoft hasn't released an Xbox VR device to compete with the PlayStation VR2. But it is also possible it adopts a comparable strategy used by titles like Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil 7, offering full console games with optional VR support.
Additionally, according to Insider Gaming, Metro Awakening is expected to be a single-player experience and could potentially be a PSVR2 exclusive, given the rumored unveiling at the PlayStation State of Play event. Leaks so far suggest an intense and frightening VR game, with the game kicking off in a dream sequence before transitioning to the player's base of operations.
Kurakasis is also unable to specify if the game is meant to be a single-player, multiplayer, or a combination of both. However, considering the series' reputation for immersive single-player action, Metro Awakening is anticipated to provide another harrowing and isolating experience.
