The Last of Us 2 Remastered Roguelike Mode Will Have 12 Levels - Reports |
It seems that leaks from Naughty Dog workers' LinkedIn profiles are the new standard for the company, and the most recent piece of information is also sourced from a former employee. According to this unofficial leak about the game, The Last of Us 2 Remastered will include even more additional gameplay than what the first reveal video hinted at, and its roguelike mode "No Return" will include 12 levels.
The Last of Us 2 Remastered Roguelike Mode Will Have 12 Levels - Reports
The Last of Us 2 Remastered was formally revealed by Naughty Dog in the middle of November after multiple leaks and rumors suggested its existence. And it was additionally announced that the game will include a roguelike mode dubbed No Return in addition to other innovative elements.
Although information regarding that mode is still limited, former Naughty Dog QA Tester Colin Freeman may have disclosed one more detail regarding No Return in a recently updated LinkedIn profile. Freeman stated, as first noticed by Spanish YouTuber Joanastic, that he took part in testing twelve "roguelike level layouts" for The Last of Us 2 Remastered.
He adds that he "tested and modified extraneous audio regions, and adjusted PAT tags on surfaces and objects throughout 12 different No Return roguelike levels," further strengthening that number.

All 12 of Last of Us 2 Remastered No Return's levels will have "AI dialogue regions," according to Freeman's LinkedIn profile, though he doesn't go into detail about this. While several studios have recently begun experimenting with AI-generated speech, it is most likely the case that the conversation in question is standard written and produced dialogue.
Freeman was one of the Naughty Dog devs who were let go in the last few weeks, based on his 18-month employment contract that concluded in November.
What is The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered No Return - the roguelike survival mode?
According to the previous reveals, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered roguelike survival mode is known as No Return, and it lets you play as a variety of characters, each with their own special attributes and immerses you in randomly generated combat and stealth encounters. According to the game's reveal video, Tommy, Lev, and Jesse will be on that roster.
As you kill waves of opponents, you gain rewards, and your strength increases as the difficulty of the task increases. It seems like a fantastic way to take in more of the action-packed gameplay without going too deep into the main plot.
As per the official reveals, TLOU 2 Remastered No Return Mode Levels consist of:
- Arcade from Seattle Day 3 (Ellie)
- Downtown from Seattle Day 1 (Ellie)
- Jackson (Chapter 1)
- Subway from Seattle Day 1 (Ellie)
- The Flooded City from Seattle Day 3 (Abby)
Although it sounds like a difficult job to get through 12 combat levels, it's not clear if this amount will apply to the finished game. There might be even fewer if some were later removed, or perhaps more than the twelve that Freeman helped bring to life. However, it provides us with a general notion of the mode's reach, and we're curious to see which places have been chosen to be featured in TLOU 2 No Return mode.
