Assassin’s Creed: Rift or now popularly known as Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will be the next title in the Assassin's series, suggest leaks.
Assassin’s Creed: Rift or Mirage |
Assassin’s Creed approaches its 15th anniversary. The celebration will be a treat for the players. It seems that Ubisoft is going to give us a look into the “future of Assassin’s Creed” in September. And it is on September 10th that the Ubisoft Forward event will take place.
On the Assassin’s Creed table right now are two major projects: the confirmed Assassin’s Creed: Infinity and the not-confirmed Assassin’s Creed: Rift. It seems that Rift will take us back to the origins of the Creed with more focus on Basim. However, there are Assassin’s Creed: Rift leaks in the air that say something else.
In this post, we will be discussing just that.

Leak says the next Assassin’s game is to be titled ‘Assassin’s Creed: Mirage’
The source of this leak, surprisingly enough, is YouTube. More specifically, a French YouTuber who calls themselves j0nathan. This guy posted regularly stuff related to Assassin’s Creed, like its updates and details. Now, we again turn to the old source of gaming leaks: Twitter. On the Twitter account titled Rebs Gaming, this leak has been translated.
The leak says that Rift is just a codename for the next Assassin’s Creed title. The real title of the game is going to be Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. The recent conjectures point towards the setting of the game being 860 and 870 AD. And as mentioned, it will feature Basim from the recent Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla as the lead character.
If you have stuck around these 15 years with Ubisoft, you will see the evolution in the Assassin’s Creed series. It began as a stealth game and slowly but surely started incorporating RPG elements. Now, it is nearly indistinguishable from an RPG game.
However, with Assassin's Creed: Mirage, the goal of the developers is to take players back to the origin and give them a taste of that stealth and secrecy that was characteristic of Assassin’s Creed. That’s why this can be called a remake of Assassin’s Creed 1.
YouTuber j0nathan https://t.co/IgrqJfAV7u revealed this information on the new Assassins Creed game
— Rebs Gaming (@Mr_Rebs_) August 30, 2022
-Should be called Assassins Creed Mirage
-Released in Spring 2023
-The game will take place in Baghdad between the years 870-860
-Return to basics, no leveling system pic.twitter.com/soCko92M6U
To this effect, elements like gender selection, leveling system, and dialogue trees, which resemble an RPG-styled game, will be omitted from this ‘remake’. The alleged release date of Mirage is the Spring of 2023.

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage leaks
Now that we have presented the premises, let us look at the proofs. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier backs j0nathan’s leaks, but only partially. Schreier had previously reported leaked information about both Assassin’s Creed: Mirage and Assassin’s Creed: Infinity. A few words on the nature of the latter game: it is a service-style title that is reportedly set in Japan, and will undergo successive updates over several years, much like GTA Online.
“A person familiar tells me parts of this new Assassin's Creed leak are true (such as the name and the other stuff Bloomberg has already reported: spring 23, Baghdad, back to AC basics),” says Schreier. However, the guy continues to discredit the other aspects of the leak, calling them “not true.” Specifically, he says that Mirage will be set in “multiple locations.”
Now, do you remember when we said that Assassin’s Creed: Mirage would be called the remake of Assassin’s Creed 1? Well, j0nathan says, this game could act as a pilot title, so to speak, that will precede the actual remake of the original game.
Mirage will feature some elements and assets of the first title, and the return-to-basics displayed in the Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla spin-off will serve to be the pillars of the remake. Those assets and elements that were made use of in Mirage will be reused in this remake and it will release as a part of Mirage’s season pass bundle. So say the leaks of j0nathan.

The architecture of ancient Baghdad, which was Arabic and Middle-Eastern in essence, could very well be redesigned and envisioned in such a way as to suit the 1st century Syria that was the setting of the original Assassin’s Creed.
At the moment, the 15th-anniversary celebration event is ongoing. It began in June and delivers a series of weekly spotlights for each of the games in the Assassin’s Creed series. The original game is saved for the last, which will take place at the beginning of September. Now, this remake of the original title would very well be the “future of Assassin’s Creed” that Ubisoft has promised.
But before we go, we will leave you with something to ponder over. As a counterargument to the leak discussed above, Schreier says that Assassin’s Creed: Mirage was supposed to be a DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at first. Later, it turned into a full-fledged game. What the leak above says is that this remake of the original Assassin’s Creed will be the DLC of a former DLC, which is a bit unusual.
In Schreier’s words, it “seems dubious to me.” He continues, “Rift is DLC-turned-game. I’m skeptical that it’s getting its own DLC, too.”
If you are stuck at this point, welcome to the club. But thankfully, this club will be dissolved soon as the “very special event” of Ubisoft looms right ahead. September 10 is just at the bend of the corner and in this Forward event, all the doubts and theories shall be resolved, denied, or confirmed, as the case is.
