Yakuza 8 storyline is almost completed as per the game producer, and more development details will be revealed soon.
Yakuza 8 |
Yazuka, the video game series, is known in Japan as Ryu ga Gotoku. It is a Japanese media franchise that is owned, created, and published by Sega. It comprises action-adventure, beat ‘em up, open world, action role-playing, and turn-based strategy titles.
For many years, the main producer of the Yakuza series has been Masayoshi Yokoyama. The original creator was a man named Toshihiro Nagoshi. Now, Yokoyama was already at the lead of Yakuza 7/ Like a Dragon before Nagoshi left Sega in 2021. This was the case because Toshihiro Nagoshi was more focused on writing the video games Lost Judgment and The Judgment.
Now Mayayoshi Yokoyama is the executive producer and director as well of the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. And at the Ryu Ga Gotoku Super Talk Stage that took place on April 29th of this year, he happened to be the only staff member present.
At this event, Yokoyama answered some questions from fans and also shared the latest development update on Yakuza 8.

Yakuza 8 storyline and its development details
As soon as the talk show started on April 29th, the inevitable question, the one we wanted to know the answer to the real bad, came. Masayoshi Yokoyama was questioned regarding the status quo of Yakuza 8, the latest video game in the Yakuza series. And the answer of the executive producer was that it was actually going pretty great.
But even though that was the case, he cannot give us an exact Yakuza 8 release date just yet.
In addition, he made another comment. He said that the scenario team at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is almost done with the Yakuza 8 story. As of now, they are writing the climax of the Yakuza 8 game and at the end, Masayoshi Yokoyama said that many of the actors cast for Yakuza 8 have started by recording the lines of their respective characters.

Masayoshi Yokoyama says the Yakuza series needs to keep changing with Yakuza 8
Later on in the talk, Masayoshi Yokoyama tried to explain a significant part of his job. He is a producer and what he does is keep the Yakuza series fresh and popular with Yakuza 8. And if that is to happen, then he cannot possibly keep on repeating the things that were present in the earlier titles in the series.
Yokoyama explains that he is very well aware of the fact that changing the main aspects of the theme of the video game could feel alienating to some long-time fans. However, he goes on, if this series is to continue to exist in the industry, then change is a must.
And we keep the man to his word, then we better be prepared to be surprised by some changes in Yakuza 8.
But still, you should remember that Masayoshi Yokoyama has said multiple times in the past that Ichiban and the protagonist of the game, along with the turn-based JRPG battle system, will not go away from Yakuza 8.
One such statement took place in Yokoyama’s interview with 4Gamer. Just a fun fact, this interview had the Japanese wrestler Danshoku Dino who happens to be a big fan of the Yakuza series. This interview is more or less the wrestler sharing his thoughts on the game. Yokoyama keeps adding his share of thoughts about each point.

Near the end of this interview, Yokoyama was questioned about the future of the video game series. He said that what happens next with the series, and at that time only Yakuza 7 was out, will depend on how the world reacts to Ryu Ga Gotoku 7.
Whether they even make a Yakuza 7 sequel will more or less be decided by the players (and obviously, we can see now that the players do want more of Yakuza!). And the thing is, they could do anything now. It could be an unnumbered game they make next, maybe include many protagonists, maybe it will be a spin-off.
But personally, Yokoyama said he wanted to keep on with Ichiban’s story. Hence, now we know that Ichiban will in fact be returning.
Now, if you have a NicoNico Premium account, then this talk show’s recording will be there for some days. So you can watch new details on Yakuza 8 there. And also, no Yakuza 8 trailers or visuals have been revealed yet.
