Overwatch, the world's most popular first-person shooter, features fantastic characters, an active esports industry, and beautiful maps. Blizzard's most well-known FPS has cemented its place in gaming history.
Overwatch 2 appears to be on the verge of being launched this year, following months of anticipation. Blizzard has set a date for gamers to try out the Overwatch 2 beta, which was unveiled earlier this week.

Overwatch 2 close beta release date
There was hardly any news regarding Overwatch 2's official development status prior to this week. In November 2021, it was announced that Overwatch 2 might be postponed, but there was no explanation given as to why. The development staff for Overwatch 2 has also shifted in recent months, with Jeff Kaplan (Overwatch's director), exiting Activision-Blizzard before the company's recent controversies.
Blizzard has announced that the Overwatch 2 close beta will be available on April 26th and through the link provided by Blizzard in their recent tweet, gamers can sign up for the Overwatch 2 beta. Standard matches on the normal Overwatch maps, as well as four new ones and a new game mode dubbed Push, will be available in the beta.
The beta follows an Overwatch 2 closed alpha test that is now open to Blizzard staff and Overwatch League pros, with users able to join up at PlayOverwatch.com.
Instead of the 6v6 battle type employed in the original game, Overwatch 2 will feature a new 5v5 system. Blizzard claims that deleting the tank role, which is the least used in the game, will improve matchmaking.
#Overwatch2 PVP Beta is coming April 26.

Overwatch 2 close beta features
The Overwatch 2 closed beta will include:
- Overwatch 2 5v5 PvP mode
- Overwatch 2 Push Mode
- Overwatch 2 Ping System
- Four Overwatch 2 hero reworks (Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion, and Sombra)
- One new Overwatch 2 hero (Sojourn)
- All OW1 maps
- Four new Overwatch 2 maps (Circuit Royal, Midtown, Toronto, and Rome)
In the original game, players with more than 4000 SR (skill rating) generally have to wait in huge lines, which might last up to an hour. While waiting in line, a few high-level Overwatch streamers wind up playing other games.
With the absence of fresh content in Overwatch, many gamers are anticipating the Overwatch 2 PvP beta to check out what new the devs have planned for the future. A future close beta for the game should also help it gain traction as Overwatch 2 release date is coming closer.

The game's production team stated in a previous update earlier this month that it now aims to isolate Overwatch 2's PvE feature from the standard multiplayer suite so that it can focus more on the former.
"We've taken some time to rethink Overwatch 2 based on your feedback," game director Aaron Keller stated earlier this month, "with the primary objective of making sure it's a live game, serving our players with fresh stuff on a regular basis."
It's an indication that the developers have stepped up their attempts to incorporate user feedback into the game. As a result, there's a lot of anticipation building as the Overwatch 2 PvP beta launch approaches on April 24.
