Mad Max 2, the sequel of the original Mad Max was being developed before the pandemic, as suggested by new rumors.
Mad Max 2 game can still be under development |
Those unaware, the original Mad Max game was released back in 2015, following the critically successful film Mad Max: Fury Road. It was created by Avalanche Studios, the same studio that brought us Just Cause. One can't say that the Mad Max game is completely based on the film series, yet it indeed is inspired by it.
Mad Max is an open-world action-adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic environment and has benefited to a great extent due to the collaboration with franchise creator George Miller. The Max Max game had a particular focus on vehicular combat with players taking on the role of the titular Mad Max.
However, it is to be noted that the first Mad Max was rarely viewed as a hit, which now has 91% positive appraisals on Steam, demonstrating the amount of likeliness that users have given the game over the years.
The Mad Max game has been a solid example of an open-world action game with decent sales numbers, hence it is natural for the fans to await the Mad Max sequel, that is Mad Max 2. So, those looking forward to the new Mad Max game, we have some fascinating news for you as new rumors suggest that Mad Max 2 is possibly under development.
Mad Max sequel - Mad Max 2 leak
Some fascinating Mad Max 2 rumors have been floating on the web, suggesting that the sequel was in the works at Avalanche Studios prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The rumors are on the roof as Wendy W. Fox, a digital researcher, posted a snapshot of herself undergoing a 3D photogrammetry scanning session at Avalanche Studios in New York.
The researcher posted a tweet over a week ago, however it went unnoticed until today. As per the Twitter post, Wendy Fox claims the photo was captured "before times," possibly referring to the days before the pandemic when she was called to the studio to represent a rebel in the Mad Max 2 game.
Before times, at @AvalancheSweden in New York, when O'Neil invited me to get scanned to be in Mad Max 2, as a rebel. The magic of #photogrammetry, 3D Scanning, & many cameras @MadMaxGame. pic.twitter.com/gIjzC3zM54

Given that Avalanche Studios has never commented on the matter, Wendy Fox's Twitter remark might very well be an unintended leak. However, this single hint could indicate that the devs are indeed playing to surprise the fans with the much-awaited Mad Max sequel, Mad Max 2.
Unfortunately, she didn't go into much information about the project or its current condition, so that's pretty much all she revealed.
However, a few fans speculated that Wendy Fox might have misspelled a word, prompting a flood of suspicion on social media.
But, as far as we know, there seems to be a slim chance that she was incorrect, considering the original Mad Max didn't use facial scans or photogrammetry to create its character models. Moreover, Fox is unlikely to mix up the post-apocalyptic setting with Rage 2 as some speculate, since there were no rebels in the wasteland of Rage 2, and the designer specifically mentioned the Mad Max game page in her tweet.

Mad Max 2 release date
While the game's existence seems possible, nothing is known about its current state as Wendy Fox's pre-pandemic shot appears to be from 2017.
All things considered, the chance of a sequel appears to be very plausible, and it comes at a time when fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating the sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, which was just postponed to 2024.
If that's the case, the studio may be planning the Mad Max 2 release date in conjunction with the upcoming Furiosa film, which is set to hit theatres on May 24, 2024.
Yet, it is to be noted that so many years have gone with no sign of the project, implying either a significantly delayed project or, worse, one that has already been scrapped. If that's the case then fans have only one option to go back and enjoy the original Mad Max game.
Mad Max is an open-world game that has fared better against the test of time and has been quite popular amongst the other well-known titles in the genre. So, it wouldn't be a wrong choice if the developers actually drop the Mad Max 2 title.
However, currently, these are all speculation and leaks, hence it is suggested to take all the information with a grain of salt. For now, fans can only be hopeful that as the months' pass, the developers will release more information on the game.
Well, there you have it, everything we know about the Mad Max 2 game. Be sure to check it out when the game releases. We will keep updated with new info, so keep following.
