The Last of Us Part 2 was released back in June 2020 and fans were waiting for its release for a long while as the primary game was a huge hit and fans were looking forward to the second part.
Now as The Last of Us Part 2 has already been released and fans have enjoyed the game in a while, they have started talking about The Last of Us Part 3. The story of TLOU 2 concentrated on two main characters, that is Ellie and Abby, where Ellie is out to take her revenge for the murder of Joel and explore her relationship with sweetheart Dina whereas Abby is a soldier who gets trapped between the conflict of her militia and religious cult.
While a few fans were disinterested in the second game's story, many considered it to be an advantageous sequence of The Last of Us which was released back in 2013. The story of TLOU 2 finished on open-end, hence there are all possibilities of a sequel, The Last of Us Part 3.

The Last of Us Part 3 has been a huge topic of discussion among the TLOU community, however, Naughty Dog has maintained its silence well and not revealed any info about it.
But players should take note that back in April 2021, Creative Director of Part II, Neil Druckmann has affirmed that he has written a story outline for a third part of The Last of Us. However, it is also to be mentioned that the game was not being developed when Druckmann talked about it.

With the Part 2 end, it appears that The Last of Us Part 3 would begin with Ellie's story, maybe spinning around her relationship with Dina, however, it is yet to be seen what the upcoming sequel has to bring for Abby's part.
Yet, the fact that the story for the third portion has already been plotted by Druckmann has already brought a great ray of hope to the series' fans.

The Last of Us Part 3 Release date
It was made clear in April 2021 only that the TLOU3 is not in development, so players will definitely need to wait for a few years to get their hands on the third part of TLOU.
Moreover, with Naughty Dog's track record of releasing the TLOU series, even an official declaration appears to happen after a long while. Naughty Dog released the first game in the TLOU series in 2013, and the TLOU2 was reported in 2016, which was then released in 2020 (after a huge delay).
Currently, Naughty Dog is busy with its next project on The Last of Us Part multiplayer with a new IP named "Stray’s Cross" rumored to be in development.
Moreover, there are additional rumors that they are working on battle royale along with contributing to HBO’s TV adaptation of the game.
