The recent CD Projekt job listing for an Open World Designer hints at the development of The Witcher 4.
The Witcher 4 |
CD Projekt RED made its name with The Witcher trilogy, a series of open-world medieval games that is based on the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Then the company released an open-world game - Cyberpunk 2077, which is currently receiving kind of a backlash with its bugs and errors.
However, the developers are currently trying their best to fix the issues and give players a new and improved version of the game.
Recently, CD Projekt Red posted a job listing for an "Open World Designer (Junior/Specialist)," asking the candidate to "fill [CD Projekt Red's] game world with believable and exciting content consisting of communities and events that players will encounter."

After seeing the post for the new job listing, a few fans started to make guesses that the posting might be associated with the new Cyberpunk 2077, however, the mention of "PC Role-Playing Game," in the post recommends an alternate theory.
The peculiar part of the posting "Role-Playing" does seem a perfect fit for Cyberpunk 2077, yet it doesn't come into the classification of cRPG.

So, talking about the possibility of the next IP being The Witcher 4 game, it's possible that the next entry in the Witcher franchise could take on a somewhat unexpected structure with its theme, design, and setting in comparison to the action-adventure that was seen in previous games.
Moreover, CD Projekt RED recently detailed that the title was in early developments, however, it was additionally mentioned that the release won't happen before the year 2025 and players are assuming that The Witcher 4 might follow Ciri's journey after the apparent retirement of Geralt, the protagonist of the game toward the finish of Wild Hunt.
And keeping the popularity of the game in mind, a re-visitation of the adventure of Geralt of Rivia with The Witcher 4 would bode well with the new posting.
It's completely conceivable that the posting is for a completely new title, and not for The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077. Since 2007, CD Projekt has worked solely on two series, that is Cyberpunk and The Witcher, so there are high chances that a new IP is on the cards.
CD Projekt Red currently has many activities on its plate as both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 are currently being redesigned for the next-gen consoles including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. So, it will be interesting to see what the company has to offer with its upcoming project.
